Being far from home should never mean feeling unsafe. Here is what we do to protect our residents, and what we ask you to do in return.

What we do

Safety built into the residence

Controlled access

Entry to our residence is controlled, and visitors sign in. Only residents and authorised staff get through the door.

Monitored premises

Communal areas and entrances are monitored, and security is on site at our residence.

An emergency line that answers

076 884 7372 is answered around the clock for anything that threatens your safety or the building.

Fire readiness

Fire equipment is installed and maintained, and exits are kept clear. Residents are shown the exits when they move in.

Single gender rooms

Rooms are allocated single gender, and our house rules on visitors are enforced.

Someone to tell

Every resident has a named contact at residence management. If something is wrong, there is a person to raise it with.

What we ask of you

Safety is a shared job

The strongest access control fails the moment somebody props a gate open. A few habits keep everyone safe.

  • Never lend your key, card or remote to anyone
  • Do not let strangers walk in behind you
  • Lock your room every time you leave it, even briefly
  • Sign your visitors in, and take responsibility for them
  • Walk in groups at night and stick to lit routes
  • Report broken locks, lights and gates the day you notice them
  • Keep your valuables out of sight and insured

Gender-based violence and harassment

StayHope has zero tolerance for gender-based violence, sexual harassment, intimidation or abuse, whether by residents, visitors or staff. Every report is taken seriously and handled confidentially.

If you or someone you know is affected, you can speak to residence management, or contact the national services directly at any hour. You do not need permission from anyone to make that call.
